AF is a 25.6-metre motor yacht built and launched in Italy in 1974 by the Fratelli Benetti shipyard. An extensive rebuild process is currently ongoing at MCS Shipyard in Imperia, Italy.

Her interior configuration has been designed to accommodate up to six guests in three cabins and carry up to three crew members to ensure a comfortable onboard experience. Designer Luca Catino refreshed the exteriors and interiors yet preserved the original style that distinguishes the traditional shape of the Benetti canoe stern yachts.

AF features a displacement hull with a typical canoe stern, a central skeg and two shaft lines on either side of a balanced.

Dominator Yachts is building a 42 metre Ilumen tri-deck superyacht inspired by multicultural living.

The project was announced at the yard's 20th anniversary party. It comes after the yard extended its Ilumen range to include two new models in June last year. The 36 metre and 38 metre Tri-decks models joined the range, which features naval architecture by NavalHEAD and interior design by Luca Catino. The range also includes a 28 metre and 24 metre model.

Named Peppermint and currently under construction, the 42 metre “mini explorer” is offered with either a semi-displacement or displacement hull and has a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at 11 knots. The yacht also features the option to have a touch-and-go helipad at the bow.

Decks and spaces on board the yacht have been inspired by different continents. The flybridge has a Middle Eastern theme with subdued colours, a hookah lounge and traditional bar and was likened to a “Marrakech café”.

The upper deck meanwhile has been inspired by Asia and comes with a lifestyle and detox area complete with a yoga studio, workout room, smoothie bar and expansive windows for long reaching sea views.

The aft cockpit, main saloon and galley have been inspired by Europe, specifically Milan, with large open spaces, and a seamless connection between the interior and exterior.

Lastly, the owner’s cabin has been inspired by New York and has been styled to resemble a modern loft-style penthouse in Manhattan. Designed for long periods at sea, the cabin features large glass walls and windows, contemporary décor and an office complete with a teleconference screen.

Speaking about the yacht, the yard said: “The owner’s passion for travelling the world influences the design of each area.”

To ensure the pedigree of their builds, Dominator collaborates with top level industry experts. For the new models, the curator of interior design was Luca Catino, who put his quintessentially Italian spin on a palette of stunning materials, tones and textures. The balance between geometry, ergonomics and luxury - with those all important bespoke touches - make these models truly spectacular.

In the case of the 36m, the owner requested a bright environment, to which the team responded with light shades, lacquered surfaces and subtle plays of colour. The salon is enriched by a back wall, whilst an owner cabin in the bow features asymmetric upholstery.

The interiors of the 38m Tri Deck, meanwhile, feel the influence of a previous Ilumen – Cadet V. The tri-deck vessel features a similar colour scheme and overall ambience to her sistership, but feels simultaneously updated. There is a renewed cleanliness of the shapes, paired with rich materials such as Mutaforma mosaic adorning the back wall of the salon.

The new Dominator Ilumen models are upgraded in more ways than one. Large external surfaces guarantee a stronger connection with the environment, enhanced by the characteristic Ilumen moon roof which floods the owner’s cabin with natural light.

Special features also include a multi-functional beach platform which can be raised and used as a diving board or lowered into the water to provide easy access to the water. On the privately accessible bow terrace of the 36m Ilumen, an integrated jacuzzi ensures the megayacht experience whilst maintaining the convenience of the 36m format.

The range is also cutting-edge technologically. The hulls can come as a displacement and semi-displacement version, which means more living space and less noise and vibration. The choice of electric instead of hydraulic stabilizers for the 38m Tri Deck further improves comfort at anchor and during cruising.

Dominator also offers a high-tech construction in post-cured glass and carbon fiber mixed with epoxy resin. Further, every model has a double bottom with structural fuel tanks, which ensures a low barycenter and enhanced stability, safety and performance.

Every Dominator Ilumen is unique, defined by the imagination of her owner. Design, functionality and innovation are incorporated into a one-off masterpiece achieved though industry-leading engineering, and the two new models are no different.

The 36-metre and 38-metre Tri Deck Ilumen yachts will feature custom designs and materials that resonate with the tastes and necessities of their owners. Some of the designs onboard the 38-metre Tri Deck are inspired by Cadet V, her 28-metre sistership and winner of the World Yacht Trophy in Cannes 2018. 

Having put together a colour scheme of light shades that contrast against darker wood, textures and mosaic adornings for the 36-metre model, the interior designer Luca Catino commented: “Interior yacht design is constantly evolving and relies on the visual perception and sensitivity in the use of materials. The colours and simplicity of the shapes used on an Ilumen ensure the sense of serenity on board while simultaneously reflecting the ultimate elegance and luxury.”

The 38-metre Tri Deck will be equipped with M73L engines that can power her to a maximum speed of 21.7 knots in half load condition, although owners can also opt for the M93L engine which can reach approximately 24 knots. Electric stabilisers have been chosen for the 38-metre Tri Deck for absolute comfort when at anchor and underway.

A lot of consideration went into the selection of fine woods used to dress this yacht, with tonalities of grey and blue oak, and blue palisander created especially for the client. This attention to detail even extends to the stitching of the sofa and the custom colour and design of the parquet, while it pays off in the harmony of sophistication, comfort and style. A sculpture of renowned Lorenzo Quinn and two beautiful artworks by Stefano Curto featuring thousands of Swarovski crystals take pride of place in the refined interior, where the gorgeous suede by Foglizzo forms part of a different colour scheme in each of the luxurious cabins. The bathrooms feature an accompanying handmade file rouge mosaic by Sicis, while the pearl grey parquet accentuated by darker ‘comento’ edging provides a soft palette for the blue agate recessed on the walls of the master cabin and lower deck lobby. The result is something quite unexpected on a yacht of this size and the interior design is by Luca Catino, a very talented designer in the yacht industry.

Built to the exact same standards but custom-fitted to the owner’s specific requirements, the Ilumen CADET V is a very different, unique yacht built from the same Ilumen 28M concept. The 2 V drive shaftline and the stern section of the hull have been designed to provide the twin propellers with the best wake in order to maximise efficiency and reduce fuel consumption across the speed range. The hull shape, together with the twisted rudders, allows the yacht to manoeuvre easily and without inertia delay even at very low speeds. In short, the Ilumen CADET V is a segment-leading technical marvel at sea.

Luca Catino says about CADET V interior design :”The interior design of CADET V stems from a special meeting with the owner of the boat, in which the project inputs, lines to follow and color preferences have been defined. The main source of inspiration and the resulting style reflect the taste of the owner and the peculiarities of a Nordic design, in which the contrasts and the cleaning of the geometric shapes enhance the spaces. Simple geometries and continuity of sign generate the spaces inside, making the boat unique. The use of primitive forms and their intersection generates elements that we can cyclically find in every environment. The close collaboration with the customer has determined choices ranging from color shades to the functional needs of the boat, where nothing is left to chance. Materials of extreme richness and contrasts ranging from dark blue to gray through warm shades of fabrics, make it a founding feature of interior design. The essences used give the boat a strong and aggressive character, while the choice of fabrics fills the need for warm and enveloping colors. The element that makes this boat unique also derives from the strong passion of the client for art; the studies, proposed since the first meetings, are in fact the synthesis of the integration / fusion of the pieces of art with the geometries and the functionalities of the environments, trying to exalt as much as possible these unique pieces and make them part of the scenography. The result, exalted by works of art, reflects exactly the personality of the owner and gives the boat unique characteristics.”

Over the summer, Austrian-owned, Italy-based shipyard Dominator launched its fifth Ilumen 28m superyacht, part of the series that made news a year ago with its first breakthrough hull named Kalliente. The 92-foot semi-custom Cadet V sports an efficient semi-displacement hull and a shaft propulsion system, with further technological and interior tweaks taken from suggestions by those familiar with the first few hulls. Yacht designer Alberto Mancini crafted the exterior, as he did all of the Ilumen models; Dominator chief designer Luca Catino created the interior. Cadet V’s owner is a fan of artist Stefano Curto, whose work incorporates thousands of colorful Swarovski crystals, and so several of his pieces are installed on board the yacht, adding distinct personalization to the vessel.

One of the noteworthy features of the Ilumen is its floor-to-ceiling windows on the main deck, which provide 270-degree views and pull in natural light—great for the mesmerizing Curto piece hanging in the main saloon. The yacht accommodates eight guests in four cabins, including an owner’s suite that was extended and maximized for space. Not only is it larger, but its floor-to-ceiling windows and sunroof above the bed also bathe the space in light and views, further adding to its spacious ambience. In addition to the owner’s suite, Cadet V offers up three staterooms—a full-beam master cabin and two VIP cabins—on the lower deck. Crew quarters will carry three crew members, perfect for a yacht of this size.

Cadet V’s owner envisioned the yacht as an on-water extension of his homes, making the space his own. Enter Stefano Curto, whose bold artwork contrasts nicely with the subtle blue and gray interior. Oak, palisander wood, Invisible Light marble, and Agata blue stone provide interesting texture, and custom parquet covers the floors throughout.

For fun, the yacht houses a Williams Jet Tenders SportJet 395, a Sea-Doo Spark, two Seabobs, and a Radinn Wakejet in its tender garage, and the yacht’s beach club gives easy access to the water. Cadet V sports a maximum speed of 21 knots and a cruise speed of 14. Its sister ship Zalanka is also at the show.

Dominator Yachts has opened up about its forthcoming 27.5 metre Ilumen yachts Zalanka and Cadet V, which are due to be launched in June.

Despite sharing the same semi-displacement hull form and design combination (Alberto Mancini for the exteriors and Luca Catino for the interiors), these two projects are highly individual, the yard explained. The most obvious example of this is the layout — Zalanka will boast five cabins, while Cadet V features the four-cabin version.

No exterior renderings of Cadet V have been released yet, but Zalanka (pictured above) will feature a spectacular gold hull finish.

Speaking about the latter yacht’s interior décor, designer Catino revealed: “Refined warm tones are provided by Amara ebony and light oaks from the Lissoni Collection, but also by gorgeously contrasted backlit white onyx and taupe silk Georgette marble with wavy veins that resemble the sea. The freestanding Poltrona Frau fauteuils stand upon a handmade parquet in chocolate oak tones with a special finishing, while the sumptuous fabrics come from the latest Hèrmes and Dedar collections.”

By contrast, Cadet V’s interior (pictured below) will feature Stefano Curto artwork, oak and palisander woodwork, rare marbles and precious stones.

The new Dominator Ilumen yachts will both carry state-of-the-art toys in their tender garages, with Zalanka set to carry two full-carbon e-bikes from Purismo, while Cadet V will boast a Radinn Wakejet electric wakeboard. Shared kit includes a Williams 395 jet tender, a Seadoo Spark and a pair of personalised Seabobs.

Power will come from a Reintjes poddrive propulsion system for an estimated top speed of 21 knots.

"The megayacht FB269, a 69 meter Custom megayacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, has been successfully transferred to Benetti’s Livorno shipyard.

Benetti FB269 is the megayacht designed for one of the brand’s most loyal customers, Italo-American John Staluppi, for whom this is his third Benetti.

M/Y Spectre brings together all Benetti’s leading edge design and construction techniques. Among all the other innovative features, it will be the first yacht fitted with Ride Control technology, which delivers an unprecedented increase in navigation stability for a vessel of this type.

The contours of the Hi Speed Cruising Hull designed by Dutch firm Mulder Design have been optimised to deliver both maximum navigation efficiency, with a range of 6,500 miles at 12 knots, as well as a top speed of about 21 knots, which is 30% more than a traditional displacement hull.

Italian flair permeates the streamlined, modern exteriors designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta Design and the interiors by the Benetti interior design team.

The yacht features five decks and the layout is designed to offer big open air spaces and absolute comfort for 12 guests. Accommodation is provided by two owner’s cabins, one with access to an entire private terrace with an exclusive hydromassage tub and a sun lounging area, two VIP cabins on the main deck, and two more guest cabins on the lower deck.

The launch and delivery of the Benetti FB269 M/Y Spectre are planned for early summer 2018".

WHAT WHAT WHAT ..

They said : "What what what?!"

I said : "Ladies and gentleman it is an honour for me being here and being part of this great Family .. The Dominator Ilumen Yachts Family".

This is how it started my speach last June at the Monaco Yacht Club.

It was asked me to present a brand new interior project/concept to present in Monaco for the Official Launch of the Dominator Ilumen 28 Meters Yacht. The big challenge was not developing a new project, but developing it based on a watch. Yes, a watch..and what a watch!

They asked me to study in deep Greubel Forsey watchmakers.

Greubel Forsey is a Swiss manufacturer of top-of-the-range watches, founded in 2004 at La Chaux-de-Fonds by Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, specializing in the production of single and multiple tourbillon watches. They did not produce watches, they produce pieces of art.

That was the challenge. Develop an interior project trying to take inspiration from one of their models.

I choosed ART PIECE N.1, one of their most beautiful models, even if I had to admit that every piece is unique and amazing. Taking some elements of the watch itself and re-thinking the space with a main wall as a piece of art in terms of materials, this project had life in a "turbillon of feelings".

The final result is what you see in this set of images.

A compromise between classical elements and contemporary design in terms of material choiches. Opaque ans shiny, dark and light colours are the predominant themes of the project. A different perception of the space based on touch sensations, where the contrast between smooth and rough materials take their shapes.

Thanks to Angela and Mr. Pernsteiner. They gave me the possibility to express myself in a full unusula yacht project.
